** Please use LOTW to QSL whenever possible ** For "Paper QSL's" be sure to send your QSL card with a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE) to my Call Book Address to recieve you a confirmation. It may take a while as I only answer Paper QSLs 3 or 4 times a year in batch mode (IE: they go in a box to be answered when its not Contest / DX time). LOTW is uploaded weekly.
I was first licensed in 1977 as KA7EBG, operating only 40M CW with an NC-300 receiver and a Johnson Viking II with a VF-1 VFO. It put out only 40 watts from a pair of very tired 6146b's into a mono band "Gotham vertical" mounted on the chain link fence surrounding my parent's home.
Always a low budget affair, over time I managed to acquired more modern equipment and vastly improved antennas.
The spring of 1979 is when I upgraded to General and was issued N7CDH.
After trying 4 times to earn my Advanced class, I passed the test and was in 1982 issued KD7DH.
April of 1983 was the final time the FCC came to Reno for their round of field testing. This time I was thoroughly prepared and passed my Extra class exam earning my coveted 2x1 callsign of NC7K, which I held for many years.
In the late 1990s, the Vanity callsign craze was all the rage but I waited for the initial fray of activity to die down before looking to see what was left. After finding that some cool callsigns were still available, in early 1993 I put in for 19 of them and was assigned K7XC which is I still hold to this day.
Along the way I have done everything from chase states for WAS, countries for DXCC, became an avid HF and VHF contester, went on a DXpedition to Tonga (A35WZ-1996), bounced VHFsignals off airplanes, meteors and even the Moon! After all that, I am still here doing what I love the best, CW contesting whenever possible! Upload to LOTW on a regular basis. 73s from N NV de Tim - K7XC - DM09nm... sk
PS: SSB SUCKS! CW FOREVER!!
