---------------------------------------------------

I have been on the air for almost 40 years, all (99%) on CW in the HF bands. First licensed in 1979 as KA5HLZ. Then in 1989 as KB5HRK. I upgraded to General Class and changed my call to K5KUA. (My uncle George, who inspired me was W5KUA (sk) ). I upgraded to Extra Class on June 25, 2010.

My rig is an ICOM IC-718 and I normally run about 75 watts out to a Mosley Mini 32 up 35 feet (12m) on a fiberglass telescopic pole. I have put up a GAP - TITAN vertical. It is working very well and am now using it more than the G5RV. I have modified it so I can take it down easily and take with me to Galveston Island. (The GAP antenna was recently taken down and sold to a good home).

I was off the air for about 8 years as the kids were growing up. I became active again in 2009 after the kids graduated from college. My XYL and I bought an RV and we travel all around Texas, so on many weekends I am QRV from all over the state. Galveston Island NA-143 is our favorite place.

While there, I will be working CW only on 40M thru 10M (mostly 20M, 30M and 40M) as conditions and time permits. I will gladly confirm NA-143 for you as long as you send me your QSL card with an SASE. Yes, I am old fashion and collect QSL cards.

I QSL 100% via LoTW and via bureau for all DX contacts. Bureau cards are usually every 4 to 5 months. If you prefer direct QSL, please send to above address. For U.S. address, please send SASE and please include your QSL card. Non U.S. please send your QSL card with a SAE (envelope with your address) plus $1 USD (minimum $1 green stamp, $2 is best) or 2- Euro, 1- GBP, 1- SFr, 50- RUB, 200- , or 1- IRC (current 2017 only).

If you are outside the U.S. and QSL direct and do not include the minimum $1 (green stamp) or 1 current IRC, I will now have to reply via Bureau. I can no longer reply direct to non U.S. without at least minimum $1 USD green stamp. Please keep in mind Postal rates to send out of the U.S. have now recently increased again to $1.20.

If you prefer to receive your QSL via the bureau, please send me an email and I will send you my card via the bureau. I usually try to send my QSLs via the buresu every 4-5 months.

I always enjoy receiving SWL cards too ---

73, Joe
