Who we are:

The Yukon CanAm Contest Club is a group of dedicated (Mostly CW) contesters/DXers who want Yukon on the air and available for hams around the world. The station is at the QTH of J Allen, VY1JA, just north of Whitehorse, in grid CP20kw. J loves to work on the station. In 2015, we did a fund-raising campaign to get J a competition-grade radio and other parts and goodies to make the station competition-grade.

The current configuration consists of an Elecraft K3s, Alpha 9500 Amp, Palstar HF-Auto KW Automatic antenna tuner, a four-element quad for 10-6 meters, including WARC, A 1/4-wave 80m full-size ground plane, 1/4-wave full-size 40m ground plane, and a V-beam, with it's apex at 70 feet, and the ends currently at 30 feet. The V-beam legs are ~600 feet long. Our future plans are to raise the height of the V-beam ends, install a 160m Double-L (K2KQ Style) with 1 70' high vertical radiator, and building a 4-square of 40m ground planes. The quad performs very well, but will not last in the harsh Yukon winters. We need to replace this with a decent, heavy-duty high-performance tribander.

The VY1AAA core operating team is currently Cary, VE4EA, Rich, VE3KI, Gerry, VE1RM, Gene, KB7Q, Ed, K1EP and Hal, W1NN. We operate VY1AAA over the internet, using the technology from Microbit's RemoteRig. We have no dues -- members donate what they can, and we will do campaigns now and again to raise funds from the Amateur community.

So far, this has worked well. Thanks to generous in-kind equipment donations from DX Engineering, Hamplus, and Vern, W1VB, we are well on our way to fulfilling our dream of making Yukon available for contesting and general DXing on CW. In 2016, J became friends with Tyson, VY1SLZ, who has been providing tremendous help in working on the station and antennas.

We also have a couple of ops interested in Digital modes and SSB, so they are available as well. If you were on for ARRL Sweeps CW and SSB, CQWW CW, ARRL 160, or the Stew Perry this year, there was a good chance you heard or worked us! We confirm via LOTW; if you want a QSL, that's via Marty, KC1CWF. Look for bigger and better things in 2017.

QSL to our QSL Manager KC1CWFat his CBA. Please add $3 to cover mail and QSL printing costs. We will also QSL via LOTW.
