Hi DX'ers, This short note is just to let you know I spoke to Team Leader, DK9KX a few hours ago. All systems are "GO" for very early Thursday morning.

Hello Again,
I had a good contact with the 3D20CR Group a few minutes ago.
Everyone is all OK and looking forward to reaching Conway Reef.
They are under both Sail and Motor Power at present and expect to
arrive in approximately thirty-three hours from now. In other words
they have another day and a quarter of Sailing. Team Leader, DK9KX
said that if he didn’t call tomorrow, he will call me when they have
landed.
Leon,   (K2EWB)

I’m pleased to advise  you that the 3D20CR team has reached Conway Reef !
DK9KX just called me from the boat advising that they were approximately five
miles off shore waiting for a heavy rain storm to stop prior to moving closer.
The present plan is to get one station up and running ASAP. They have to wait
for the weather to improve first.

Because of the reported  underwater earthquake near Samoa, I decided to call the team sitting off of Conway Reef. I learned that everyone is OK and further that they were now in involved in unloading all their gear. Leon, (K2EWB)

Sept 30, 2009 1145z
I just received a call from Team Leader DK9KX. He reports that one station is now QRV on 14.024 Mhz. Because the Reef is now in darkness, the rest of the antennas will have to wait until their sunrise tomorrow their time.
Everyone is well.

I received the daily Conway Reef call a little while ago. All is going along on schedule, except for the Propagation.  ALL antennas  have been erected except for the 75/80 meter and 160 meter verticals. The sun was coming up as I was talking to Hans and he told me that with in the next few hours these last two antennas will be put up . This evening their time they will be on 80/75, and 160.

1000 UTC Saturday October 3, 2009.
There was no posting yesterday as I did not receive a call.
Team Leader Hans DK9KX called at 1000 UTC with the following info.
There was a storm there yesterday and one of their antennas was blown down.
When the storm ended the antenna was repaired and put back up. It’s the
middle of the night on Conway and one of their generators has failed. Not
to worry however, as they have put a spare into use. They will see about
repairing the non-working one after their sunrise which will be after 1800UTC.
They have had 12,000 QSO so far. I have had over 20,000 hits here on QRZ.com so far.
I have advised Hans of the noise on 14.190MHz, so they may move a few KC up or down.
Also I relayed the request of more 30 meter activity for Western EU at 0800-1200 UTC.

Monday 1600 UTC October 5, 200

Team Leader, Hans DK9KX (Hawa to his friends) advises me of several matters today.
As of now they have reached 26,000 contacts. I do not know how many unique call signs there are.
Some of my readers have asked me about the possibility of a pirate station operating on 40m yesterday at about 1500 UTC. It has been reported that there were two stations qrv at the same time, both on 40m, one on SSB and the other was on CW. The question of course comes up because of possible interference. All of this was sent to Conway via a text message at 1245 UTC. Due to the wonders of satellite communications I have a 75% answer. The SSB station was for sure QRV from Conway. As for the CW, I will receive the answer on Wednesday. The reason for the delay is because the entire CW operation takes place over 250 meters separation from the SSB Camp. Each has their own antennas I believe.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING  CAREFULLY SO AS NOT TO BE CONFUSED.
3D20CR will shut down on Thursday, October 8th at 1800 UTC. That is their Friday morning Oct. 9th on Conway after their sunrise.
Leon,  (K2EWB)

1900 UTC, OCT. 07, 2009 Wednesday
Here is the latest info from Team Leader, Hans, on Conway Reef.

In answer to the question about SSB AND CW on 40m, the answer
Is Yes. They did have some CW at the same time. This refers to
Last Sunday at aprox. 1500 UTC.

They have passed through the 32,000 QSO mark.

Now for the rest of the operating period:
CW Only 80m and 30m will be QRV until 1800 UTC on the 8th.
All other Bands will be QRT after 0700 UTC on the 8th.

SSB Only 40m through 10m will be QRV until 1800 UTC on the 8th.
All other Bands will be QRT after 0700 UTC on the 8th.

He also said the Radio conditions yesterday were very bad.

At that point the Contact was lost.
Leon, (K2EWB)

Hi Guys

I called Hans, DK9KX (Team Leader) at 0004 UTC last night.
The team is all OK, and I learned they were aware of the new
quakes. I believe the boat has some sort of inter island radio network
that is monitored.

Earlier, after Bernie, W3UR notified me about the recent earthquakes
in the South Pacific I spent a short time collecting what news I could.
By now you all know there was a total of at least three quakes within
a few hours of each other.

At this time (1245 UTC) the team is still QRV. Below is a News Link
sent to me by Bill KC1AG.
Thank you Bernie and Bill. Leon. (K2EWB)

1200 UTC  Monday Oct 12, 2009

Hi Again DX-ers. It’s my pleasure to advise you that the CR2009 Team
is now on dry land. Hans, DK9KX called me on the Satellite phone at
1200 UTC. Everyone is healthy despite many hours of rough seas including high swells and winds. During this period no one was allowed outside on deck. They had to remain in their cabins or other inside areas. To make up for the difficult portion of the return trip, finally the seas and winds calmed to the point that they had to return to engine power for the rest of the trip.

Hans asked me to advise you all that the radio conditions during their mid-day hours were just about blacked out. Many hours of CQ-ing brought few answers
during the last few days of the operation. The QSO total is approximately at
37,500. The computer logs have not been merged as yet.

After packing the antennas and all other equipment (to be shipped to Germany) during the next several days, they will head home.  Their return flights to Europe
will total 9 hours. I’ve skipped listing the times as it becomes too confusing. It’s easier to say that considering the time difference, they will leave on Friday  UTC and land late on Friday UTC.

It’s been rewarding for me to bring the “The Conway News” reports to the DX-ing community. This will be my final report.

If you have any questions please address them to Hans, DK9KX as shown at the Conway Reef site. http://www.conwayreef2009.de/
