GB70VI

In 1939 the radio equipment of all U.K. radio amateurs was ordered to be confiscated for the duration of the war, but many amateurs volunteered to become Voluntary Interceptors in their own homes.

These V.I's assisted the Allies in their task of intercepting encrypted Enigma messages transmitted in Morse code, which were passed to the code breakers in Bletchley Park.

This Special Event station commemorates the 70th anniversary of the commencement of this operation.

The photo on the QSL cards shows a Navy four rotor Enigma machine, reproduced by permission of the Enigma museum www.w1tp.com/enigma

GB70VI will commence operation on 27th June 2009 for 28 days. (until 24th July).
