Call me JERRY... (Gerald is just too formal!)

BIO info: Started in 1953 as NOVICE with calls KN4AHC and KN6JHO. Lost the ticket when I discovered GIRLS! Joined the Navy in 1957 and naturally was assigned to training as a Radioman. Took the GENERAL exam during that time and received call sign K6SMH. Did my USN days in the Submarine Service operating the ship-to-shore CW circuit.

In the mid-70's thru mid-90's I lived in England (North Yorkshire county at MHS) for about 8 years where I signed G5CQP and later G0CLY. You may have heard me using special event calls GB5DX, GB0RIP, GB4JUL and GB75USA. I was also a regular op at club station G0FOS.

Held K6SMH until 1997 when I traded it in for the vanity call K6III.

Primary interests are DXing and HF Contesting. Past Secretary of the Northern CA DX Club and am now a member of the Northern CA Contest Club.

Am active in most HF contests as a little-pistol with my modest station.

Lately been attracted to QRP operating. Latest rig is the Elecraft K2 kit (see web site www.elecraft.com). I prefer to operate CW but the K2 has the SSB module as well. In 2005 I added the Elecraft KX1 to my suite.

In the QRO world, I operate the IC-765 with IC-2KL linear (400w). Hope to have RTTY mode going soon but so far, that has alluded me!

Retired from USNR (Active Duty USN '57-60, Submarine Radioman, USS ROCK SSR-274, San Diego; Life Member United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.) and a career of software engineering.

I operated club call KX6SUB for a few years. I have now traded that one in for another Club call, KZ5OM, to honor my birth QTH, Panama Canal Zone (are you old enough to remember that old KZ5-prefix?).

In 2007, I moved to Grass Valley, CA. and have reassembled my station there. I am active in my local church and various volunteer organizations.

QSL Policy:

I no longer collect paper QSL cards. But I will reply to yours if you will kindly send along a SASE (or IRC).

I am sorry that my QSLing has finally come down to this sad state of affairs.

I upload all my QSOs to LOTW and let the ARRL do all the book keeping. I do reply to all eQSL (www.eqsl.cc) requests but no longer upload the whole log there. I also participate with the Club Log web site (www.clublog.org).
