Licensed in 1962 as WN6CGL, while in high school, became WB6CGL in 1963 with a General Class license after suffering through the General test at FCC Headquarters on Battery Street in San Francisco.  Upgraded to an Advanced License in 1986, changed call to KI6IV, then to Extra in 1987.

Changed call to K6NV in 2006.

I recently retired from the US Forest Service after 37+ years of fighting forest fires, managing avalanche programs and working with ski areas and lots of other stuff.  Lived in Truckee for 35 years.

Member of the Northern California Contest Club, enjoy contesting, chasing DX and refining my antenna system.  When not “hamming”, during the winter months I go skiing, both back country and downhill several times a week and in the summer months mountain biking.  Am on the Board of Directors of the Sierra Avalanche Center.

Have been married for 33+ years and have 2 grown children, seems like we chase them all over the country.
