1962 - Novice WN9EBR. Worked maybe 30 states and NO countries with a DX-20, Heath GR-91 crap receiver, and a piece of wire out the window... 1963 - General class but on the SECOND try. Long train ride home from Chicago FCC office when you fail the CW. Second try was 5 minutes of solid CW copy! Call WA9EBR.... 1965-70 - operated mostly from Purdue Radio Club W9YB. Then incentive licensing hit us. Took the Extra exam as soon as I could (1969). Club president one year. Finally got mechanical engineering degree.... In 1974 divorce took me off the air, packed up the SX-71 and Apache. 1982 or so - applied for ANY 1x2 or 2x1 call, just to get rid of the crappy CW call. Got KJ9C... just as bad, baud-wise! Decided to live with it. Job took me all over the world... but was too busy to ham!.... 1993 - finally back on the air. Enjoy CW DXing and contesting. Using wire antennas (dipoles,2 el triband quad at 28 ft, inverted L on 160) and 100 watts from K3 or FT1000MP. Got a low beam on 6 meters, nothing much to brag about. Work 80 thru 6 CW mobile and do a lot of QSO Parties mobile.... Member of Hoosier DX and Contest Club and Society of Midwest Contesters. Good groups of top ops. Enjoy helping people out...almost full time volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. Certified snow skiing instructor, former ski racer, enjoy golf, bicycling, and SAND volleyball followed by beer. Used to enjoy chasing women but XYL puts a crimp in that activity. After all, I'm a grandpa! ... Retired in 2001, so sometimes you might work my puny signal from our Montana house using stealth antennas (skiing, right?)...
