N5UI Bio
I have been interested in Amateur Radio since the age of 12. I received my first license, WN4QBW, in 1976 at the age of 15. Later I upgraded to WA4QBW and then eventually received my Extra class in 1983 while living in Maryland and became KU3O. I held the KU3O call from 1983-2010 even though I have lived in the 3, 4, and 5 Callsign districts over that time. On November 28, 2010 I changed my callsign to match my call district and became N5UI.
I enjoy working DX, and Contesting and use CW, SSB, FM, PSK31, and JT65 modes. Branching into VHF/UHF and beginning to get setup for Satellite Modes. Still looking for an inexpesive AZ/EL system for use with my station.
I have worked 142 DXCC entities on 100 Watts or less and nothing more than a dipole. Although I use a dipole outside at the moment, all of the 142 DXCC entities were worked at my previous location with an Alpha Delta DX-EE dipole in the attic of my one story home in Tampa, FL.
As of now the dipole is outside of my two story home in Flower Mound, TX just about 25 miles NW of Dallas, TX. I just added an Elecraft KPA500 Solid State Amp to my station in May 2011, and recently completed building my first Elecraft K3 Transciever in June. Tower discussions beginning soon. :-)
Well, thats my BIO... I hope to see you on the bands!
73's and Good DX,
George
