FEBRUARY 4, 2008
The new QSL cards from our October 2007 operation finally arrived today. We will be able to start working on the backlog now. Thank you for all the cards you have sent so far.
NOVEMBER 2007
Peter, Glen and I had a wonderful time operating from Gingerbread Hill once again. We made over 4,900 contacts during the CQWW DX SSB contest using my callsign (VP2MDG), and each of us made a number of contacts outside the contest. Peter used VP2MZM and Glen used VP2MKA. Send QSLs for VP2MZM and VP2MDG to K2DM. Send QSLs for VP2MKA to W4GKA. The new QSL cards for VP2MDG should be ready about the middle of December.
MAY 2007
Peter (K3ZM) and I will be returning to Montserrat this October to operate in the CQWW SSB DX contest. We will be joined by Glen (W4GKA). The operation will again be from Gingerbread Hill.
NOVEMBER 2006
I returned to Montserrat to operate in the 2006 CQWW DX CW contest. This time my wife, Chris, and I stayed at Gingerbread Hill in St. Peter's. I put up a Mosley CL-33 triband yagi on the roof of the villa and dipoles for 160M, 80M and 40M. The photo above shows the Gingerbread Hill villa with the CL-33 and the dipoles on the roof. The station consisted of a Kenwood TS-850S transceiver driving a Dentron Clipperton-L amplifier. I made 4,029 contacts in the contest and a couple hundred contacts before and after. QSL all contacts to K2DM, but please note that cards will not be ready until mid-January 2007.
My operation was made possible with the generous assistance and friendship of VP2MNI. Thank you Tyghar!
The proprietors of Gingerbread Hill are very ham friendly. They welcome both contesters and casual operators, and the location is fantastic for ham radio. I left behind a Kenwood TS-570DG transceiver with power supply, mic and keyer for other visiting hams to use. Check out the Gingerbread Hill web site at: http://www.volcano-island.com/. I will be returning in October 2007 for the CQWW DX SSB contest.
NOVEMBER 2004
My brother Peter (K3ZM) and I visited Montserrat on a day trip from Antigua with our wives in February 2004. We decided to return to Montserrat in November 2004 to operate the CQWW DX contest. I was issued the callsign VP2MDG, and I made hundreds of contacts before and after the contest with that call. Peter was issued VP2MZM, and we used his call during the contest. He also made hundreds of contacts before the contest using his call. QSL ALL CONTACTS with either callsign to me, K2DM. We operated from the Providence Estate villa. We received considerable support from Keith Greaves, VP2MEG, and it was a great pleasure to be able to meet Keith and to spend time with him. We also had the pleasure of meeting Trond, LA9VDA, who was on Montserrat operating as VP2MLA.
