W6FA

Untitled Document

I was first licensed as W6GEB in May, 1949, in Inglewood, California, where I was a freshman in high school, and held that call until 1979. I upgraded to Extra Class in 1952. In 1976, I took advantage of the FCC's "Grandfather" offer, and requested and received W6FA, which I have used as my primary call since 1979.

I held EI4VTC for a 2 month trip to Ireland in 1995, and VK7WB for a one month trip to Australia in 1999. (I still hold VK7WB in anticipation of a return to Tasmania on a future vacation). I've also operated as SM6/W6FA on a 5 month sabbatical at Chalmers University in Gothenburg in 1989, KH0/W6FA on a week's visit to Saipan in 2000, and KH6/W6FA on various trips to Hawaii. In September 2003, I was 6Y5/W6FA for a week.

I am now retired as professor of electrical engineering and applied physics emeritus at the California Institute of Technology, where I taught from 1977. The main QTH (with the good antennas) is our retirement home in Nevada City, California, but I also operate from our other house in Sierra Madre, California. (I send distinctive QSL's from the two QTH's). Hope to QSO you from both!
