4S     - Mats, SM6LRR will be active as 4S7LRG from  Sri  Lanka  between  22
         January and 4 February. He will focus on 160,  80  and  40  metres,
         with a possible "serious participation" in the CQ WW  160-Meter  DX
         CW Contest provided that "permit for a specific  good  TB  location
         is received". QSL via SM6LRR, direct or bureau. [TNX NG3K]
5H     - Sam, F6AML will be active as 5H1Z from  Zanzibar  Island  (AF-032),
         Tanzania until 24 January. He plans  to  operate  CW  (3525,  7025,
         10120, 14005, 18085, 21005, 24905 and 28005  kHz)  and  SSB  (3755,
         7055, 14260, 18128, 21260, 24935  and  28460  kHz).  QSL  via  home

5R     - Andy SM1IRS, Al SM4HAK and Eric SM1ALH  will  be  active  as  5R8HL
         from Madagascar between mid-January and early February.  They  plan
         to operate CW  and  SSB  on  80-10  metres  from  the  main  island
         (AF-013) on 18-22 January and again on 1-4 February, and from  Nosy
         Be (AS-057) from 22 January to 1 February.  QSL  via  SM1ALH.  They

CE      - Johan,  CE9/PA3EXX   and  Cezar,  CE9/VE3LYC  went  QRT  from  the
         Wollaston Islands (SA-031) at 18 UTC on 13 January, with 4100  QSOs
         in the log. They "will try  to  land"  on  Diego  Ramirez  (SA-097)
         around 6 UTC on 15 January. QSL  for  both  callsigns  via  VE3LYC.

CX     - Commemorating the 100 anniversary of the  birth  of  Louis  Varney,
         G5RV  (1911-2000),  the  inventor  of  the  renowned  multiband  HF
         antenna, the Centro Aficionados Montevideo will be active as  CW5RV
         until the end of the year. QSL to P.O. Box 6000, 11000  Montevideo,
DU     - Expect Christian  EA3NT,  Bjorn  SM0MDG  and  Simon  IZ7ATN  to  be
         signing DU6/homecall from  the  Caluya  Island  (OC-125)  until  15
         January. After that, EA3NT and SM0MDG [425DXN  1027]  will  go  and
         operate from OC-244 (17-21 January). [TNX DX World]
HL     - A team of seven operators will be active as  HL0A  (presumably  /2)
         from Yeongjong Island (AS-105) on 15-16 January. According  to  the
         entry on qrz.com, this will be a low band activity. QSL via HL2DYS.
SM_ant - Mika, OH2FFP (OJ1ABOA) [425DXN 1027] expects to  be  active  as  as
         SM/OH2FFP  from  Swedish  Station  Wasa  (Antarctica)  during   the
         weekend. QSL via home call. [TNX VA3RJ]
T31    - The expected QRV dates for the upcoming T31A DXpedition  to  Kanton
         Island (Central Kiribati, OC-043) [425DXN 1015]  are  18-28  April.
         An international team of  twelve  operators  (namely  EA1IR,  K6ZH,
         N1EMC, N6HC, N7CQQ,  N7CW,  N9NS,  UX2HO,  W2IJ,  W6KK,  W9IXX  and
         YT1AD) will be active on 160-6 metres SSB, CW  and  RTTY  from  two
         operating sites. Two team members will arrive in Apia  on  6  April
         to inspect the equipment shipped from California and  operate  from
         5W as time allows. The entire team will leave  Apia  on  the  13th,
         and sail approximately four days. QSL via W2IJ, direct  or  bureau.

PACIFIC TRIP ---> Hermann, DL2NUD and  Stefan,  DL9GRE  will  be  active  as
FK/DL2NUD (on 2m and 70 &  23cm  EME)  and  FK/DL9GRE (on the HF bands) from
New  Caledonia  on  16-26  January  and  again  on 3-15 February. Between 27
January and  2 February they  plan  to operate from Vanuatu under individual

DX DINNER ---> The Southwest Ohio DX  Association  (SWODXA)  is  pleased  to
again sponsor the DX Dinner, to be held in conjunction with the 2011  Dayton
Hamvention on Friday, 20 May at the Dayton Marriott Hotel.  Details  can  be

DX0DX ---> The DXpedition to the Spratly  Islands  [425DXN  1027]  has  been
postponed "due to circumstances beyond  the  control  of  the  DX0DX  Team",
Chris (VK3FY, Team  Leader)  regrettably  announced  on  11  January.  In  a
nutshell, "there was conflicting agreements and  hence  the  aircraft  could
not get approval of its flight plan". However, he says, "we have a  licence,
we have authority to land via ship, hence when the  ship  becomes  available
in the near future, it is my intention to activate  this  entity  in  2011".

LY WPX PLAQUE ---> The LY WPX Plaque is a new  permanent  award  for  either
licensed amateurs and SWLs for working Lithuanian  prefixes  (LY  only,  not
UP2) on all bands and modes. All contacts must be confirmed  (by  traditonal

VE POSTAL RATES ---> Canadian postal rates will rise again  on  17  January.
The new base prices for standard letter items are as follows:
Canada         Up to 30g  CAD 0.59
U.S.A.         Up to 30g  CAD 1.03
International  Up to 30g  CAD 1.75
Stamps are subject to taxes. Actual rates  can  be  calculated  through  the
"Find a Rate" on-line service provided by Canada Post (www.canadapost.ca).

+ SILENT KEYS + Leonard Andrew "Woody" Woodward (W7KOP) passed  away  on  25
December 2010, at 99 years of age. According to the ARRL, he  "was  involved
with scouting for more than 87 years", and "was known all over the world  as
an  unofficial  ambassador  of  America  and  Scouting  through   his  radio
contacts". Other recently reported Silent  Keys  include  S.  Hasan  Mahmood
Zaidi (AP2ZH), R. John  Gardner  (GW4KVJ),  Bruno  Fornelli  (I1YLM),  Dario
Laurindi (IZ0MTV), A. George Spencer  (VE3AGS),  Bill  Voedisch  (W1UD)  and
John P. Basilotto (W5GI).
