IREF ---> The new web site for the Island Radio Expedition Foundation (IREF)
is up and running at http://www.islandradio.org. In 2002 IREF sponsored 13
expeditions that represented 16 different IOTA references (OC-051, OC-077,
OC-090, OC-126, OC-186, OC-235 plus ten new ones: AF-092, AS-161, AS-165,
NA-222, OC-248, OC-249, OC-250, OC-252, OC-253, OC-254). More than $5,500 was
granted to help fund these expeditions that produced more than 47,000 QSOs.
Contributions to the expeditions ranged from $150 to $700 depending on the
difficulty and rarity of the island. [TNX AD5A]

MIAMI TROPICAL HAMBOREE ---> The South Florida DX Association will be hosting
the DX Forum at this year's Miami Tropical Hamboree on 1 February. For
further information on the event, as well as on the DX "Happy Hour" Cocktail
Party and the DX Dinner, please visit

NEW PREFIX ---> IQ (India Quebec) is currently being issued as ordinary
prefix club stations in Italy. For example, IQ4AD is the permanent callsign
for the Parma ARI Branch.
Since IQ is no longer a special prefix for individual Italian amateurs, those
who held an IQ contest callsign shall change it. For example, Andrea/IV3SKB
(ex IQ3X) will now be using IU3Y in major contests. QSL IU3Y via IV3SKB.

QSL EU-073 ---> All of the direct requests for IJ7/IZ8DBJ and IJ7/IZ8AJQ (San
Pietro Island, September 2002) have been processed and mailed; the remaining
QSOs have been confirmed automatically through the bureau. [TNX IZ8AJQ]

QSL FW8FP ---> "The QSL cards for FW8FP are not ready", Bill Horner, VK4FW
reports. "I am receiving literally hundreds of emails about this" Please be
patient, "the cards will be done as soon as received from the printer".

QSL PT0F ---> All cards for PT0F operated by CT1BOH should go to W3HC.

QSL YI1BGD ---> Cliff, G0MMI is the QSL manager only for contacts made with
YI1BGD operated by Rodger, G0TLC. These *do not* include CW contacts, as
Rodger does not work CW. Cards for the current activity from the club station
in Baghdad should go via YI1DZ.

QSL ZD8M ---> If  you still need  a QSL for  Mike's (G3UOF) 1993/94  activity
from Ascension Island, you can send your card to M.R. Wadsworth, 67 Station
Road, Bardney, Lincoln LN3 5UD, England. [TNX G3UOF]

QSL VIA IT9NVA ---> Those who need a direct card for one of Vincenzo's
several operations from Italian lighthouses and islands should use the
following new address: Vincenzo Altamura, P.O. Box 164, 96100 Siracusa - SR,
Italy. [TNX IT9NVA]

QSL VIA YO9HP ---> Alex, YO9HP still has logs and QSL cards for his
activities from Kuwait as 9K2/YO9HP (1995-1997) and 9K5/YO9HP (1996). He also
operated from KARS club station 9K2RA during that time frame, but cards for
those activities should go to 9K2RA either direct (Kuwait Amateur Radio
Society, P.O. Box 5240, Safat 13053, Kuwait) or through the 9K bureau. Alex
is now active as A45WD from Oman, and has replied to all direct cards
received before 22 December 2002. He prefers direct cards (to be sent to Alex
Panoiu, Pleasa, Prahova, RO-2038, Romania), but bureau cards will be honoured
as well. [TNX A45WD]

SV2ASP/A ---> Someone pirated Monk Apollo's callsign on 15 metres CW on 13
January. However Kostas, SV1DPI reports that Apollo expects to operate CW,
and possibly RTTY and PSK31 as well, in the next coming days. Typically
Apollo's free time is around 5.30 UTC and again between 17 and 19 UTC. QSL to
Monk Apollo, Dochiariou Monastery, GR-630 87 Dafni, Mount Athos, Greece.
Apollo would like to remind DXers that the SY prefix is currently being
issued to ordinary Greek stations as a special prefix. None of the recent SYs
was from Mount Athos, except for SY2A (operated by Monk Apollo a couple of
years ago). [TNX SV1DPI and IK3ZAW]

VP8ROT ---> Mike, GM0HCQ confirms that VP8ROT from Rothera (the British
Antarctic Survey's base on Adelaide Island, AN-001) "is currently being
activated by one of the summer base staff and I will be acting as the QSL
manager. Due to the restrictions on operating from a base, I will be unable
to send any requests for skeds to the base. I am still waiting on some
further information regarding the operator who is working the station, and
once known I will be publishing the details on my site at www.gm0hcq.com".
[TNX VE3LYC]

WLH CONVENTION ---> This year the World Lighthouse Award Convention will be
held at Le Pouliguen (France) on 13-15 June. For further information please
e-mail wlha@free.fr [TNX F5OGG]

ZL1AMO UPDATE ---> After three months, Ron has been released from the
hospital and is now home. He thanks "the many hundreds around the planet who
have kept me going over the past months". [TNX AA7UC]
