3D2_r   - The 5-21 August 3D2BD operation from Rotuma and Suva (Fiji)  [425DXN
          783] has been cancelled because of transportation problems  (details
          at http://3d2bd.free.fr for). [TNX F5NQL]
4L      - Eugene, UX3MR reports  he will  operate SSB,  CW and  RTTY on  10-80
          metres as 4L/UX3MR from Georgia on 10-31 August. He will also try to
          activate a  lighthouse  (GEO-004). QSL  via  home  call,  direct  or
          bureau.
9H      - Francesco, IK0FVC reports  he will  operate holiday  style as  9H3FV
          from Malta on 1-11 August.
CT      - Luis/CT1EEQ, Arlindo/CT1EGW  and  Carlos/CT1END will  be  active  on
          90-10 metres SSB from Culatra Island  (EU-145) on 12-13 August.  QSL

CX      - The Centro Radioaficionados de Rocha (CX1TA) will participate in the
          International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend  (19-20 August) from  the
          Lighthouse at Cabo Santa Maria (ARLHS URU-004). Look for CV8T to  be
          aired on 160, 80, 40, 20,  15, 10 and 2 metres SSB,  CW, AM, FM  and

DL      - Volker, DL1WH  will participate  in the  International Lighthouse  &
          Lightship Weekend from the  lightship "Amrumbank", DF0MF  (FED-012).
          He plans to operate CW and SSB on 17-20 August. All of the QSOs will
          be confirmed automatically  via the  bureau, SWL  reports should  be

DL      - Peter, DL2RPS  will participate  in the  International Lighthouse  &
          Lightship Weekend  from Lightship  "Fehmarnbelt", DL0FFF  (FED-141).

F       - Special station TM5VIN (VIN for "wine") will be active on 5-6 August
          for the Open Cellars Day. Expect  activity on 40  and 80 metres  SSB

GM      - Alex, GM0DHZ and Andre, GM3VLB are active from Skye and other EU-008
          islands (Soay,  Wiay,  Flodigarry, S.  Rona)  until 8  August.  [TNX

I       - ARI Frascati will activate  special call IY0ORP  on 11-12 August  to
          commemorate the microwave test carried out  by Guglielmo Marconi  in
          1932 between Capo Figari  (Sardinia) and Rocca  di Papa (Rome).  QSL

I       - Marco, IZ6ASI reports he will be active as IZ6ASI/p from  Senigallia
          Lighthouse (WAIL  MA-004, ARLHS  ITA-181) on  19-20 August  for  the

I       - Look for IU1L  to be aired  again from La  Lanterna (ARLHS  ITA-177,
          WAIL LI-005) during the International Lighthouse & Lightship Weekend

I       - A number of  special callsigns will  be aired from  Italy and  other
          countries on 2-10 August to celebrate  the third anniversary of  the

          below): ED8SRT,  EF8SRT,  IO0SRT, IO1SRT,  IO2SRT,  IO3SRT,  IO5SRT,
          IO6SRT, IO7SRT, IO8SRT, IR0SRT  (Sardinia), IR3SRT, IU8SRT,  L30BST,

ON      - Members of UBA  sections DST, KSD  and RCO will  operate as  ON4OSLN
          from Nieuwpoort Lighthouse (ARLHS BEL-004) on  19-20 August for  the
          International Lighthouse &  Lightship Weekend. Activity  will be  on
          80-2 metres SSB, CW and and PSK31. QSL via ON5RKN, direct or bureau.

OZ       - Jens, DL8WOW  will  be active  as  OZ/DL8WOW  from  Bornholm  Island
          (EU-030, BO-001  for  the Danish  Islands  Award)  on  7-17  August.
          Activity will be on 40-10 metres,  mainly QRP CW  with 5 watts.  QSL

SP       - Look for Peter, SP5PB/2 to operate CW  and SSB on the HF bands  from
          Stilo Lighthouse  (ARLHS POL-017)  on 17-20  August. This  operation
          commemorates  the  100th  anniversary  of  this  lighthouse  and   a
          certificate      will      be       available      (details       at

SV      - Enrico, IZ5CML  reports  he will  operate  SSB on  10-40  metres  as
          SV8/IZ5CML from Antiparos  Island (EU-067)  on 6-20  August. QSL  to
          home call via bureau.
SV      - SV2AYT, SV2AOB, SV2BET, SV0EG and SV2CNB will operate on 80-2 metres
          mainly SSB as  SX8AYT from a  few islands in  the EU-049 IOTA  group
          between 12  and  27 August.  On  the islands  of  Lemnos  and  Agios
          Efstratios they will be joyned by local operators SV8CRL and  SV8BUZ

TF      - Sergio, IZ6BRN will  operate SSB  and possibily  RTTY as  TF6/IZ6BRN
          from Egilssadir, Iceland  (EU-021) on 8-12  August. QSL via  IZ8CLM,

TK      - Fabrizio, IK5WOB  says  he is  active  as TK/IK5WOB  from  Algajola,
          Corsica (EU-014) until 5 August. He  operates CW only on 40, 30  and
          20 metres.
TK      - Stefano, IK5PWQ reports he will be active holiday style as TK/IK5PWQ
          from Corsica (EU-014) on 7-19 August. He will operate CW and SSB  on
          the HF bands, and will also  be active on  20 metres as  TK/IK5PWQ/P
          from the Sanguinaires Islands (EU-104). QSL via home call
UA      - Look for  UE3YAR/p to  be aired  on 11-13  August to  celebrate  the
          Russian Air  Force Day  for the  AFARU (Armed  Forces Amateur  Radio
          Union) activity programme. QSL direct to RV3YR. [TNX RV3YR]
UA_ssh  - Oleg, R1ANF is currently  active as R1ANF/p  from Priroda Refuge  on
          King George Island, South Shetlands (AN-010). He should remain there
          for another couple of weeks. QSL via RK1PWA. [TNX I1HYW]
VE      - Dave, VA2DV will operate  holiday style as  VA2DV/P from the  Mingan
          Islands (NA-176) on 7-11 August. He  is likely to operate on 20  and
          17 metres, with some activity on  80 metres at  night. QSL via  home

VP8     - Don, VP8ON reports that  hopefully VP8LGT will  be aired again  from
          Cape Pembroke Lighthouse (ARLHS FAL-001), Falkland Islands  (SA-002)
          on  19-20  August  for  the  International  Lighthouse  &  Lightship
          Weekend. QSL  via  VP8ON  (Donald  Betts,  P.O.  Box  809,  Stanley,
          Falkland Islands, FIQQ-1ZZ, South Atlantic).
VQ9     - Jim Clary, ND9M (VQ9JC/KG4JC) is returning to Diego Garcia  (AF-006)
          for another four-month tour. Last winter he made nearly 15,000  QSOs
          (84% CW, 11% SSB, 5% digital) despite lousy band conditions, and Jim
          is hoping for another productive time  on the island. QSL via  ND9M,
          direct or bureau (direct requests will be forwarded to him every 2-3
          weeks, and it takes about  two weeks for  first-class mail to  reach
          him). IRC users please  note that requests  received after the  IRCs
          have expired  at the  end of  this year  will  be answered  via  the

VU      - Special event station VU13IARU  will be active  until 11 August  for
          the 13th IARU Region 3 Conference  to be held  in Bangalore on  7-11
          August. The person  in charge  of the  station is  Mr. A.R.  Prathap
          Kumar, VU2POP (vu2pop@hotmail.com). [TNX F5NQL]
XX9     - Hide, JM1LJS (XX9TJS) will be active from Macau (not IOTA) on  11-15
          August. He plans to operate on 30, 17,  12 and 6 metres SSB and  CW,
          plus satellite. QSL  direct only to  home call. Further  information

YB      - Special station YE1SH will be active on 4-6 August to celebrate  the
          61st anniversary  of  the Indonesian  Declaration  of  Indipendence.
          Operations will take place on 2-160  metres SSB, CW, and  RTTY/PSK31
          from the Soekarno Hatta International Airport (named after the first
          President and the first Vice-president of Indonesia). QSL via YC1TY.

YB      - Hotang, YC0IEM will operate as YC0IEM/7 from Borneo (OC-088) on 7-24
          August. QSL via IZ8CCW, direct or bureau. [TNX IZ8CCW]
YI      - Ryszard, SP8HKT/YI9KT is returning to Iraq and will be in  Diwaniyah
          until January 2007.  He plans  to operate  with 100  watts on  10-40
          metres (also on  80 and 160  metres, if  he can  install a  suitable
          antenna) in his spare time  (8-10 UTC, 13-14.30  UTC, 17-20 UTC  and
          2-3.30 UTC for low  band operation with  North America). QSL  direct

YU6     - Toma,  YU1AB  and  Emin,  T91S  are  active  as  YU6/homecall   from
          Montenegro until 10 August. [TNX YU1AB]
YU6     - Wayne/K8LEE, Janet/W8CAA, John/KP2A, Jim/W9VNE and Joe/W8GEX will be
          active as 4O6DX from Montenegro on  14-21 August. They will  operate
          CW, SSB and PSK on 160-6 metres from the contest location of  Ranko,
          YT6A on Obosnik Hill. QSL via K8LEE. [TNX N4AAA]

KH8SI ---> The KH8SI team departed  Pago Pago, American Samoa at 12.30  local
time (23.30 UTC) on 27 July and became active from Swains Island in the early
UTC hours of the 29th. The team experienced a few problems on Swains and  had
to turn the generator off at  times, because the island residents  complained
that the noise prevented them from sleeping. The team expected to QRT in  the
UTC evening of 2 August. QSL via JA1BK.

NA-195 & NA-156 ---> Bruce, KD6WW and Mike, K9AJ made a total of 10,185  QSOs
from both locations, with approximately 70% of this total from Young  Island,
Hopewell Islands (NA-195) and 30% from  Fairway Island (NA-156). From  NA-195
they used KD6WW/VY0 on CW and  K9AJ/VY0 on SSB, while  from NA-156 they  used
K9AJ/VY0 on CW and KD6WW/VY0 on SSB. QSL via home calls. [TNX K9AJ]

NA-246/PR ---> On 30 July XE2WWW/XF2  and XE2K/XF2 operated  for a few  hours
from Larga Island in the Tamaulipas  State group, NA-246/Pr (IOTA NEW).  This
was a reconnaissance trip in view  of an operation to  take place early  next
year. QSL via N6AWD.

NLLW 2006 ---> The National Lighthouse-Lightship Weekend QSO Party 2006  will
take place from  1 UTC on  5 August through  23.59 UTC on  the 6th.  Detailed
information can be found on the  Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society's web  site
at http://arlhs.com/NLLW-2006-guidelines.html

POSTAL RATES (CROATIA) ---> Tom, 9A2AA reports that postal rates have gone up
in Croatia (a  15% increase). The  postage for a  standard letter  (up to  20
grams) to European destinations is 7.00 Kuna (HRK), to the US is 8.00 HRK, to
Japan 8.2 HRK. Currently 1 USD = 6.6 HRK, 1 EUR = 7,3 HRK.

QSL 3B8FQ ---> Effective 1 July,  the QSL route for 3B8FQ  is direct to  home
call (Rachid Cadersa, 55 Rue de la Faye, Belle Rose, Quatre Bornes, Mauritius
Island) or via K5XK (no longer via RW6HS).

QSL SV9/IK5PWQ  --->  Stefano  reports that  the  QSL  cards  for  SV9/IK5PWQ
(EU-015) and SV9/IK5PWQ/P (EU-187) are  being printed right  now. All of  the
QSOs will be  confirmed automatically via  the bureau  in September.  On-line

QSL VQ9LA ---> Direct requests  should be addressed  to Larry Arneson,  DG-21
Anx 30, PSC  466 Box  24, FPO  AP 96595-0024,  USA. Neither  N0QM nor  WD0HSP
(actually Larry's  current  and  former  stateside  callsigns)  are  his  QSL
manager: "some people still send to  N0QM", he says, "My  parents hold on  to
the envelopes and send them to me about every 6  months or when I go home  on
vacation. If you send to N0QM there will be a big delay for getting the cards
direct". VQ9LA logs will be uploaded to LOTW once Larry leaves Diego  Garcia.

QSL VIA ON4LAC ---> Jose, ON4LAC reports that the QSL cards for his March-May
activities from Mauritius (3B8/ON4LAC) and Rodrigues (3B9/ON4LAC) will arrive
from the printer in  late August. Please  be patient and  do not send  second
requests.

WRTC ---> All of the WRTC logs will be uploaded to LOtW. The QSL manager  for
paper cards for all of the WRTC stations is PP5VB (direct or bureau).  Island
chasers please note  that 15 stations  (PT5G, PT5I, PT5J,  PT5O, PT5T,  PT5V,
PT5W, PW5C, PW5D, PW5E, PW5G, PW5J, PW5T and PW5U, plus PP5WRTC) were located
on SA-026, four stations (PT5P, PT5Q, PT5X and PW5N) operated from SA-027 and
the others were on the mainland. [TNX PT7WA]

+ SILENT KEY + Retired space shuttle astronaut and DXer Dr Charles E. "Chuck"
Brady Jr, N4BQW passed away on  23 July following a  lengthy illness. He  was
54. Following his career  as an active  astronaut in the  1990s (he was  also
among the pioneers of SAREX, Shuttle Amateur Radio EXperiment), he went on to
take part in several DXpeditions to  rare American Pacific DXCC Entities  and
to Bouvet Island (3Y0C). The Daily DX reports that those who still need a QSL
card can send their direct requests to KB6NAN,  who is working with KA4IST to
get all the logs.

+ SILENT KEY + Donald R. Newcomb, W0DN passed away on 27 July at 71 years  of
age. In the late 1970s he  founded the Butternut  Company, manufacturer of  a
series of highly regarded antennas,  and he held  several patents in  antenna
design.

+ SILENT KEY + Raul Roji, CX7BY, one  of the best known DXers and  contestmen
in Uruguay, passed away on 25 July at 84 years of age. [TNX LU6EF]
